Hello Members and Friends of the LGBTQ caucus,
Please join us for the 41st annual conference (April 7-11, 2010). The high number of very interesting LGBTQ-related panels and a round table on the late Italian author Piero Tondelli will contribute to a very successful and rewarding experience in beautiful Montreal.
In addition, our caucus has co-sponsored (with Cultural Studies and Film) the participation of Mariko Tamaki, renown graphic novelist and performer with "an avid interest in freaks, weirdos, and other fabulous forms of human behaviour" (from her website www.marikotamaki.com/about.html).
We will also come together on Friday evening for our traditional social event to meet the newly-elected caucus officers, as well as new and old friends and supporters of our caucus. It will also be a great opportunity to confirm and/or redefine the goals of the caucus.
I am glad to announce that we are sponsoring again this year an essay-prize. If you participated in our 2009 Annual Conference in Boston, you are eligible to submit your paper for a Caucus Paper Prize. Each caucus prize offers a $100 cash award. Prize-winning essays will automatically be considered for publication by Modern Language Studies; all essays are subject to MLS's double-blind review Please see below for application criteria and deadlines. This prize will be awarded to an essay based on a paper presented at 2009 NeMLA Convention in Boston using LGBTQ centered approaches (concentrating on LGBTQ characters or authors, using queer theory). Please send submissions to Paolo Pucci at ppucci@uvm.edu.
Criteria: Submitted essays should be between 7,000 and 9,000 words (there is a 10,000 word limit, notes and works cited included). Unrevised paper presentations are not accepted and will be returned. All submissions should include a separate cover page which states the author's name, address, and academic affiliation. Entrants are eligible to receive only one award. Entrants may submit papers in consideration for more than one award among those offered by other NeMLA caucuses, but they must notify the solicitors upon submission. Failure to do so may result in the paper being removed from eligibility.
Deadline: January 11, 2009.
Hope to see you all in Montreal. Ciao,
Dr. Paolo Pucci
Board Representative, LGBTQ Caucus
